I have always had a great love affair with pictures, especially portraits. To me, portraits create a memory of a time you never want to forget. Whether it is a family vacation, a birth, a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, the holidays, or anything in between, pictures allow you to look back and remember that time as if it were yesterday.

In high school, I was able to document the experience for everyone by being the photo editor of our yearbook. It was then I realized how deep my passion for portrait photography was. While attending college, I worked at David Banks photography studio. David Banks specialized in senior photography, sports, proms and weddings. Through my work as a receptionist and then a photography assistant, I was able to observe and develop my skills with portraitures.

As my family grew and I became an aunt, I switched to a photography studio which specialized in children and families. Starting as a photographer, I went through all the training classes I could and worked hard at developing my own style and techniques. Eventually, I worked my way up to become the Master level photographer for Proex Portrait Studio in Maple Grove, Minnesota. This allowed me an open canvas to be imaginative in helping the selection process for props and backgrounds for the studio. I was also responsible for training all the new photographers in the studio and assisting the existing photographers’ growth. I feel all my success at Proex was due to my positive attitude, my aspiration to continue learning and my love for people.

After years as the Master level photographer, I decided it was time for me to refocus myself into portrait photography without any restrictions. Portraits by Kym was established in 2000, as a result of this desire. Portraits by Kym allows me the opportunity to create memories and capture a moment that may never be again. I have honed my skills in many different types of photography ranging from seniors to children and families to weddings. Pouring my heart into everything I photograph, allows me to look at every portrait session as my chance to capture the essence of that person or that family at that exact time in their life.

Since becoming a mother myself, I realize how quick my daughter is growing and changing. We cherish the pictures I have taken and love to share them with our family.
